Your mindset matters. What we think changes how we feel and leads to action.
So you feel stuck. Maybe you’ve been eating unhealthy or couldn’t stick with a diet. It’s ok, and it’s not your fault. The last time I did a search for diets on the Internet, more than 200 diets came up in the search. It’s confusing. And physiologically, we know bad food affects our mood, which makes it even harder to make healthy decisions. Let’s consider your last healthy attempt as simply a data point and something to build from.
So what do we do? First, accept that we’re moving on and do it from a place of compassion and grace, not guilt or shame.
Here’s a strategy to help you pivot and get unstuck.
One requirement: get a journal or something to capture notes — you need to do the work, put pen to paper, and make it real.
How do you want to feel today?
We’re going to abandon the all or nothing approach and instead of focusing on the behavior you want to change. Identify how you want to feel today. Write it down and answer the question, “Why is this important to me?”
What can you do today that will move you closer to how you want to feel?
Write it out and make it easy — yep that’s right, come up with goals you know you can complete. The key is to make these goals tiny and completely achievable.
We’re looking for a streak and consistent wins. By keeping our promises, we build confidence and start to create momentum.
Carve out 5 minutes and do this for 3 days. After 3 days, keep going!
